The Legend of the Were Mer is a tiny book of sonnets, only five that tell the tale of a tailed creature who upon puberty no longer fits into the undersea world. On her 14th birthday, she becomes a Were Mer who changes from the traditional mermaid form every night into a woman with legs. She must live half her life underwater but her nights on land. The poems tell of her struggle to make her way in the world and ultimately find a partner who can accept the necessity of her two worlds and creates a safe space for her on land.
